DirectiXer V2.5
Copyright (C) 2001-2003 Kirill M. Katsnelson
Release date: 09/15/2003

DirectiXer (pronounced direct-eye-zer) is a VST adapter for
DirectX host applications. The program wraps VST plugins so
that they can be used in DirectX host applications, such as
Cakewalk SONAR, Sonic Foundry Vegas, Syntrillium; CoolEdit
and many others. DirectiXer fully supports VST 2.0 instruments,
exposing them as DXi instruments, and parameter automation
recording and playback (host support is required). The program
offers flexible per-plugin option settings and routing capabilities.
Supported are both float and fixed point audio formats.

With DirectiXer, you can have the best of both VST and DirectX
worlds: DirectX, and especially the emerging DXi standard,
versatility, and greater number of VST plugins and instruments
already avaiable on the market.

Please read and understand license.txt for license terms and condititions
before using this software.

Software And Hardware Requirements
----------------------------------

DirectiXer requires very little system resources by itself. Any Pentium
or Celeron processor with 16 MB memory will run it just fine. However,
VST plugins and DirectX hosts impose much higher requirements on the system,
so your system must match these higher requirements.

At least DirectX 8 is required to run DirectiXer. DirectX 9 is available
from Microsoft free of charge, at http://www.microsoft.com/DirectX/

Please note that DirectiXer will not run on NT4.0, simply because there
is no DirectX 8 upgrade for this OS. Only SE, ME ans 2K are supported.

Internet Explorer 3 (4+ highly recommended) for the online help file.
You do not need to set it up as a default browser, only have it installed.

Setting Up (skip to Upgrade if upgrading)
-----------------------------------------

NOTE. You may need to download additional files from Microsoft's web
site. The links provided here might change in the future; I'll try
to keep latest pointers at the DirectiXer web site at:

http://www.pobox.com/~kkm/DirectiXer/

1. Unzip all files into a temporary directory

2. Your system may need the updated Windows Installer. Double-click
the setup.msi file. If installation starts, your system is already
equipped with the latest install system. If not, please download
and install the file which is appropriate for your system from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=17343

If you are running SE or 2K, then you do not need this update.

3. Your system may also need help system update. After installation,
click on Start, The FS1R Editor, The FS1R Editor Help. If help
window pops up, then your system has it. If not, please download
and run latest version of hhupd.exe (Help Installation and Update
Package) from:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=14498

4. After you are able to open the Help file, please read at least
"How to" sections of it.

Upgrade
-------

If upgrading from previous version, unzip all files into a temporary
directory, and then run setup.exe. Please refer to relnotes.txt for
a list of fixed bugs and more technical information.

Uninstalation
-------------

Start Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, locate "DirectiXer", and
click on Add/Remove.

Demo version limitations
------------------------

Until you enter the correct license key, the program will run in demo
mode. It is fully functional, and even extra: It generates a short
beep in all output channels every 20-60 seconds. Obviously, this
beep is eliminated by registration.

Purchase
--------

Please refer to the online Help file and/or visit DirectiXer Web
site for payment information. In short, you can mail me a check or
